While the region provides humans a lush, rich landscape of vegetation, it can also provide wood destroying pests and organisms an ideal environment for breeding, and infestation. And unfortunately, these pests can cause your home and business structural damage if left untreated. Carpenter Ants are the most commonly encountered wood destroying insect in our area. Moth -- identification guide -- Discover Life
The anchovies are a family Engraulidae of small, common salt-water forage fish. There are about species in 16 genera, found in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. Anchovies are usually classified as an oily fish. The mouth is larger than that of herrings and silversides, two fish anchovies closely resemble in other respects. The anchovy eats plankton and fry recently-hatched fish. The anchovy is a significant food source for almost every predatory fish in its environment, including the California halibut, rock fish, yellowtail, sharks, chinook, and coho salmon. It is also extremely important to marine mammals and birds; for example, breeding success of California brown pelicans and elegant terns is strongly connected to anchovy abundance.

A virtual aviary converges on the green expanse of Riverview Playfield every day — sometimes in the hundreds — as evidenced by wide swaths of uprooted sod. Brooks and his colleague Patti Bakker had only to turn over a few shovelfuls of dirt to reveal the reason behind the Hitchcockian assault on the lawn: C-shaped grubs less than an inch long, pearly white and irresistible to wildlife.
